Boolean Logic / Advanced Searching


To find specific information in a large database such as the index of web sites (search engines), you need to be able to control your search criteria.

For example: if you are looking for information about the chemical element "neon", you would not search for the word "neon" alone, since this would result in extraneous information related to neon lights and advertising for a type of car. Instead, you would probably want to search for sites that contained both the word "neon" and "element". You may also want to exclude any sites that contain the word "sign".
